UJUZI 2023 - 2024 Jurists
The UJUZI 2023-2024 Program is proud to feature two distinguished guest Jurists, who between them bring diverse and extensive artistic, curatorial and educational experience. They will be joining the UJUZI 2023 - 2024 Mentors Elena Marchevska, and Abdullah Qureshi, to form a panel. This panel will be responsible for selecting the three artists who will participate in the program.
Martha Kazungu, is a Ugandan curator and art historian, founder of the Njabala Foundation, and a distinguished contributor to African art discourse and exhibitions globally.
Dennis Muraguri, is a Nairobi-based artist, celebrated for his vibrant works inspired by 'matatu' culture, who uses mediums like printmaking, sculpture, and video to explore urban life in contemporary Nairobi.
Robel Temesgen, a renowned Ethiopian artist and Ph.D. fellow at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts will also serve on the selection jury.
Abdullah Qureshi, a mentor for the UJUZI 2023 - 2024 Program and will serve as one of the five jurists responsible for the final selection of the three participant artists.
Elena Marchevska, is an UJUZI 2023 - 2024 Mentor and will be one of the five jurists for the final selection of the three participant artists.
The role of the UJUZI Jurists is to:
- Participate in the shortlist interview panel for each candidate.
- Select the final participants based on the predefined criteria and discussions.
- Provide constructive feedback for each shortlisted candidate, if necessary.
- Uphold the integrity and fairness of the selection process.
